Hertfordshire does not publish a coursework-versus-exam split for taught masters. One course’s programme specification does print its own: MSc Digital Marketing is assessed 100% by coursework, with no written exam and no practical. That is one course of the ten below, not a rule for the rest.

MSc Finance and Investment Banking is £20,950 for one year. The same subject with a 30-week placement runs over two years and is priced, in the university’s own words, at £22,450 for “the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 inclusive”. That is both years, not each, so the placement route adds £1,500 in total, rather than a second full year of tuition.

That is the one placement course of the ten below where both versions are published, so it is the one we can show you. What Hertfordshire does not publish anywhere is what happens if you do not find a placement.

Both bands carry a £1,000 discount for paying in full, for new students.

Completion of Bachelor degree in a relevant subject area with 55-65% or above depending on course.

The page does not break that range down course by course, and it does not name universities or boards the way some other UK pages do. What it adds is that “all applications are assessed on an individual basis”.

IELTS 6.0 or 6.5 (depends on course) with no less than 5.5 in any band

The same line then adds that “some courses require higher”, so the 6.0 is a floor rather than the answer for your course.

And then, in the same row, the route that matters if you never sat IELTS:

Standard XII English with 70% will also be accepted.

70% in Standard XII English is the published alternative for a taught masters. Check it against your own course, because the page says some ask for higher.

Most courses ask for a “relevant subject area”. MSc International Business is the exception, and says so:
